S.Q.A.
Exams - It was thinking caps on after the last match of
the 2003/04 season when the New Bazaar regulars sat their
"Super Queens Addicts" exam. Questions were set by Jim
Harkness and Robbie Purdie and there were four papers in
total. These were on "Tea Cake Teasers, the Connolly years,
player profiles, and the Bazaar banter page from last
season's programme". Kenny Crichton brought along a bag of
Queens memorabilia to be raffled and to the delight of the
customers - the whole Queens squad arrived. The winning team
on the night was "Dumfries Academicals" but the real winners
were Queens. In total £295 was raised and this has been used
to sponsor players kit for the 2004/05 season. Photo shows

Geordie
Supporters - After the last game of the 2003/04 season
we had the pleasure of meeting
Queens fans Gary Sweeney (44) from Sunderland and John
Thelkeld (38) from Newcastle. These lads are regular
visitors to Palmerston Park for two reasons. Firstly, they
claim to be sick of football in England which they regard as
being dominated by money. Secondly, they decided to support
a community club where there is "honesty, passion and
commitment". Queen of the South was the obvious choice!!
"The way the fixtures have turned out recently have been
great", said Gary who is still a season ticket holder at
Sunderland - "When Sunderland have been away, Queens have
been at home." Both lads enjoy a pint before the game and
enjoy the banter in the lounge bar at Palmerston Park before
the game and in the New Bazaar afterwards. It is a 199 mile
round trip for Gary and John but they managed to attend
seven games last season and ten during 2002/03. John
commented, "What the players lack in flair, they make up for
that with graft". Why choose the New Bazaar? Gary said "We
heard that this was a great pub for a pint of real ale on
match days and when we left, George, the owner shouted thank
you to us. This seems to be a custom in this pub but it is
rare south of the border. Photo shows Geordie supporters
